AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Taking proper care of your tattoo is essential to ensure it heals well and looks its best. Follow these steps carefully:

General Rule

Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo. Your tattoo is an open wound and must be kept clean to prevent infection.

Immediately After Your Tattoo – First Few Hours

  • Remove the bandage within 2–4 hours after getting tattooed.

  • Recommended: Remove the bandage while in the shower for a cleaner, gentler process.

  • Wash the tattooed area using liquid antibacterial soap and warm water.

    • Do not place the tattoo directly under running water.

    • Let water run gently around the tattoo area.

    • Use only clean hands—no washcloths, loofahs, or sponges.

  • Dry by gently patting the area with a clean, soft towel—do not rub.

  • Do not re-bandage your tattoo. It needs air to heal properly.

Days 1–4

  • Wash your tattoo 3–5 times a day with antibacterial soap and warm water.

  • After each wash, apply a very thin layer of ointment such as Aquaphor.

    • Avoid products like Vaseline, Neosporin, or any petroleum-based ointments.

  • The goal is to keep the tattoo slightly moisturized but not smothered.

Days 5 and Onward (Until Fully Healed)

  • Wash the tattoo twice daily with antibacterial soap and warm water.

  • Switch to a fragrance-free, alcohol-free lotion to moisturize the area after each wash.

    • Apply a light layer—do not over-moisturize.

Important Guidelines for at Least 3 Weeks

  • Keep it clean: Wear soft, clean clothing to avoid irritation or exposure to bacteria.

  • Keep it dry: Outside of cleaning, avoid soaking your tattoo.

    • No baths, swimming, hot tubs, or saunas.

  • Avoid sun exposure: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight. UV rays can damage healing skin and fade the ink.

  • No scratching or picking: It’s normal for the tattoo to peel or flake during healing.

    • Do not scratch, pick, or rub at the skin—this can damage the tattoo and cause scarring.

Watch for Signs of Infection

Seek medical attention if you notice any of the following:

  • Increasing redness, swelling, or tenderness

  • Red streaks extending from the tattoo

  • Pus or unusual discharge

  • Fever or chills

Following these aftercare steps will help ensure your tattoo heals beautifully and stays vibrant.
